Trend Trading & Index Investing Update, June 2009

Like the previous month, all eleven stock market indices covered by BuyorSellFunds.com showed gains during the month of May and closed higher end of May than end of April.

The BuyorSellFunds.com methodology graphs show now a buy indication for the following indices:

  • US: NYSE, Nasdaq, S&P 500
  • Europe: DAX, FTSE
  • Asia: Hang Seng Index, Nikkei, Shanghai Composite, BSE Sensex

The Shanghai Composite and BSE Sensex have gained however so much during the last months that investors shall take into account that there is a high risk for a correction. In case both indices would show a gain during June, our methodology would give a simultaenous buy and sell indication which can be interpreted as: take some profit since there is a high risk that a correction will follow. When these indices would have a moderate decline during June, our methodology would give a sell indication based on a historical too fast growth during a limited time. Investors shall be aware of the risk if they want to step into or increase their positions in funds that follow the Shanghai Composite or BSE Sensex.

Three out of the 4 covered US indices get a buy indication which means an overall positive indication for the US indices. The recovery has shown some strength now. There is of course a risk for a correction now and we suggest that safe index fund investors do not invest all their cash during one month now. People who are counting their wealth in Euro's should take into account the trend in the USD-EUR exchange rate before investing in US equities.

Two out of the 4 covered European indices get a buy indication. This is a cautious sign that also in Europe the recovery of the stock markets has shown some strength. Like in other regions, a correction is a possibility of course and investors should take that into account when deciding if and how much to step in or increase their positions.
